Members Books

As far as is known there are six books that have been published by past and present members of the Manchester Branch. These are set out below.

The first book is by one of the very early members of the branch – Harry Hall. This book was published in 1955 by Longmans, Green & Co. It’s a slim hardboard book with 32 pages and 4 colour plates. It covers 21 different succulents from 5 families.

Les Pearcy was a member of our branch in the mid-eighties and edited the newsletter during that time. With Brian Fearn he published two books. The first is about Mammillarias and was published by the Abbey Brook Cactus Nursery in 1979 (reprinted 1987). It is a soft cover book of 88 pages with many black and white photographs. There is a weath of information about the species covered in the book.

The second is about Rebutias and was again published by the Abbey Brook Cactus Nursery in 1981. It is a soft cover book of 80 pages. There is again many black and white photos and lots of information about the plants covered.

Into the 1990’s and there are three books by one of our current members, Harry Mak. Each volume contains hundreds of colour photos as well as a code which gives information on Growth, Propagation, Watering, Soil, Light amongst others things. Volume one has 582 photos with 683 and 702 for Volumes two and three respectively.
